I've been meditating all week on the thought of "What is the will of God in my life." I had someone ask me what does the will of God look like? In the Old Testament the will of God was a mystery to the sons of Israel but now the veil has been uplifted in Christ Jesus and His mystery has now been revealed to us (Eph 1:9).
What does doing the will of God add up to? Jesus said, "Whosoever does the will of God, the same is my brother, sister and mother." (Mark 3:35). By doing the will of God you are a brother, sister and mother to the only begotten(monogenes) Son of God!
Doing the will of God would be letting the Word govern Christians as they strive to be like Christ. Man tries to live up to their own expectations, which when I reflect back on my last two years in Christ, I've tried to do things according to the way I want them. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). I have to let the Holy Spirit work out the will of God, so that I'am not focused on the "bread" the desires to please myself in the flesh. Brothers and sisters the flesh is not pleasing, the flesh is weak, the flesh is constantly wagging war against the Spirit (Rom 7:23). We cannot serve God in the flesh for it is not profitable before God, but "godliness is profitable for all things" (1 Tim 4:8). It is the weakness of our flesh that distracts us from walking in the will of God. We have to tear down the strongholds of our mind and give God our thoughts, so that we can continually be transformed into Him image (EIKON). "We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor 10:5). We have to let the Holy Spirit take control of our mind, by subjecting ourselves to the imputed righteousness of Christ, and be obedient to His words and commandments.
If God opens a door in your life but suddenly decides to close it, don't worry it was God's will. By God closing that door, He's preparing you for the other open doors that lie before you if you continue to seek after God. God makes known His will in our every day living. We can see the will of God in our lifes through the effects of the Holy Spirit within us. The Holy Spirit brings fruit to our lifes and the light of Christ is revealed to us if we continue walking steadfest in His Word. The Word of God will never lead me wrongly. The Holy Spirit helps us pray according to the will of God (Romans 8:26). We should pray for divine guidance by the Spirit.
One of the teachings that I've learned in the last year is that we have to start with the little things. We should always be looking for God's will in the little things first. God will reveal greater things to us when we are prepared to cope with them.
